Following on with shapes

Here are the images that were summited for the shapes. As I mentioned before the images are my own work from taking the image to printing in the darkroom and scanning it for the laptop.
I love tradtional photography alot more than digital. I feel you get so much more from it the images are so raw. I hate this idea of taking photos and then changing them so much in photoshop programs that the true photo is no longer there. What's the point of taking the time to catch the images in the first place. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying digital is wrong or that using photoshop is cheating (I use it alot). But for me photography is about going back to the basics and learning about the traditonal methods.

Shapes and structures

Above is a few images which were created for a project called shapes and structures. This project was also are introduction to printing are own work in the darkroom. So the images you see were printed by myself. We also developed are own negatives etc and were also shown various techniques when printing are own work to help with exposure. We were shown how to dodge areas and also how to burn in certain areas. Without these techniques my images would have been useless. There were images, where areas of it need almost 3 times the amount of exposure than another areas of the image. I found this project great fun and really got the chance to explore various angles of objects etc and think hard about the compostion. Which I feel really does at times make or break an image. (I'm sure people will disagree with that but it's a personal thing that I think.) Anyway the images here are a few of which I summited for my final prints which I feel represented structures in some way or another.

3 Book covers...

I'm not going to bore you all with going in to detail about the brief for this project so I will sum it up in a simple way. (if you wish to read the full brief you can under nicole's blog.)
Anyway we were asked to re design book covers for 2 exisiting books. American Psycho and Brave New World. We were also asked to create another book cover which was connected to another project we were doing called journeys. Both projects were really challenging as we had all seen the exisitng covers and had these in mind. To kick start this project we were all asked to produced various photomontages, which in fact was quite fun. Even though it was very arty. !!!! Which I don't really like. But I produced the work regardless of my thoughts on it and here's the results.
Judge for yourselves on weather you think these ideas work or dont work.. !!!

Trying my hand at the unknown!!!!!!

I will be completely honest when I was given the brief that would lead me to this image,
I was worried. I didn't know where to start. I had to create a body of images that would be creative and show an understanding of expiremental work which was something that I had never really had to do before. I was crap at art and to be honest I paid my brother at times to complete art projects given to me by my art teacher. This picture however wasn't something I had to pay someone else for, I took this myself.... After breaking the bank balance and removing the joy off kids faces as I purchased every packet of sparklers from the local super markets. I set up the camera stood and lite the sparklers and then proceeded to get in front of the camera as quick as possible write the letter. And doing all this in the dead of the night.. !!!!! I do wonder what the hell the neighbours must have thought. But the hassle and the money as well spent and I couldnt be more pleased with the results..Any feed back welcome.

Summing up.

This to me is what these birds are all about. The look on these birds faces is pure concentration. They are so focused on getting what they want. The wings are really what gets me, the detail in the feathers is gret and I feel I managed to highlight in y work. I feel extremely lucky to be able to say I caught these bird in just the right momment. Trying to focus on them whilst they are flying is really hard. I tried to get the whole bird in focus but some of the end wings are slighty out of focus. DOF is something I seem to get right but without really knowing how. Will be good if if our tutors work abit more with us on this. If I was really picky,
I would also say that I should of blurred the back ground abit more.
However putting those comments aside I'm very pleased with this image.

Don't you just love them???

I always wondered what pigs must be thinking. They dont really do much, eat sleep, eat sleep move an inch. But after trying to get some half decent pictures of them i realised they have alot more going on in the minds.. And you may ask such as.????

Well take a look.....And decide for yourself....

Lovem or Hate them?

I really love animals, (more so than humans at times)
However when I try to images of them I swear they turn in to devils.
They do three things, they hide, they run, or they just become real pains in the arse.!
However I do at times catch them, here is a few images I feel worked.
Watch this space for more of my furry friends.

Old Times

Here is a few images taken whilst I lived in dubai.

Taken with a basic film SLR and printed at the local kodak shop. I dont claim to be a pro.
Funny none of us do we are all here to learn.

New Directions

After having a crap time at school and nearing the age of thirty I decided to enroll on a college course. Having been interested in photography for many years this seem the obvious choice for my course. I started last year and am nearing the end of year one.
I am posting a collection of my images, so of which I took before my course and some during the course....Hope you enjoy looking at them and any comments are welcome.

Inspiration

These Pictures were taken during my first year Btec Photography course, we were asked to do a project called drawing with light. This image was a follow on from alphabet letters which I created. I wont tell you how I created this piece, I will leave it up to you guys to see if you know. Comments welcome. (as long as they are polite, my kids read this).
